Insta360 X5: Revolutionary 360° Action Cam Debuts

Insta360 has launched its latest 360-degree action camera, the X5, boasting significant improvements over its predecessor, the X4. The most notable upgrade is the introduction of replaceable lenses, addressing a common complaint about previous models. Made from "new ultra-durable glass," these lenses can be easily swapped out, minimizing downtime from accidental damage. A replacement lens kit is available for $29.99.
Beyond durability, the X5 features a larger 1/1.28-inch sensor, a 144% increase compared to the X4, resulting in improved low-light performance. This is further enhanced by a new PureVideo mode utilizing "advanced AI noise reduction and dynamic range optimization" to deliver clearer, vibrant footage in low-light conditions. The camera maintains its impressive video capabilities, offering 8K/30 fps recording, 5.7K/60 fps, and 4K/120 fps for slow-motion shots, a slight increase from the X4's 4K/100 fps maximum. Still photos remain at 72 megapixels.
The X5 incorporates a triple AI chip system (one 5nm AI chip and two Pro Imaging chips), increasing computing power by 140% and improving noise reduction in photos and videos. A new InstaFrame mode simultaneously captures a standard flat video (with options for directional tracking or face-tracking) and a full 360-degree clip, simplifying social media sharing. Battery life has also been improved, with the 2,400mAh battery enabling up to 88 minutes of 8K/30 fps recording, extending to 185 minutes at 5K/24 fps. Water resistance is rated IP68, allowing underwater use up to 49 feet. A new "Twist to Shoot" function initiates recording via selfie stick rotation.
The Insta360 X5 is available now, priced at $549.99 for the standard version and $659.99 for the essentials bundle (including an extra battery, selfie stick, lens guards, lens caps, and carrying case). Additional batteries cost $44.99 each. While pricier than competing action cameras, the X5's 360-degree capabilities and enhanced features position it as a compelling option for adventurous creators and immersive storytelling. The camera is compatible with the Insta360+ cloud service, allowing quick sharing and cloud-based editing.
